Anesthesiologists are often not contracted with the same health plans that contract with the surgeon and hospitals in which they practice. Consequently, patients will select an in-network surgeon and hospital, only to later get an unexpected bill from an out-of-network anesthesiologist, who does not have a contract with your insurance company. This may result in the patient (you) being responsible for a large out-of-network deductible or co-payment. If you are concerned about potential out-of-network charges for your child’s anesthesia, you may request that your surgeon work with an “in-network anesthesiologist”.
